As an integrative counsellor, Carolyn draws upon the insights and techniques of different counselling therapies in a structured way. This enables her to offer you counselling that best suits you, rather than requiring you to adapt to a particular therapy or technique.

Prior to setting up in private practice, Carolyn worked in primary care with GP practices in Plymouth and Ivybridge and also as a volunteer with a local counselling organisation. She has experience of working with people who have suffered with depression, anxiety, bereavement, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, abuse, work-related stress and family conflicts.

Her interest in counselling and therapy began when a close family member was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (manic depression). Seeing how therapy helped this family member come to terms with and better manage this distressing illness, confirmed to her the value of talking therapies. It also gave her insight into the difficulties faced by someone experiencing mental health problems and the impact it has on loved ones around them.

Before becoming a counsellor, Carolyn worked with a leading UK business law firm within their Human Resources team and provided training and coaching to employees in personal, managerial and business skills. This experience has given her a good understanding of the pressures and challenges faced in the workplace and in striking a work/life balance.

Originally from South Wales, Carolyn lived in York and Hong Kong with her husband who was serving with HM Forces, before settling in Plymouth in 1995.
